“Dimmuborgir” features beloved Icelandic singer-songwriter Ásgeir. “His voice is so ethereal and magical, and I remember thinking what a dream it would be if he sang one of my poems,” reflects Evensen. Writing a poem the night before their session together, the piece came into being in under an hour. Lyrically, it was inspired by the late Irish musician Talos who was a friend of Evensen’s whom she also taught piano briefly. Evensen was stunned by his passing, and “Dimmuborgir” is an invocation of her lost friend. It’s about life beyond death; powerful kings returning to ancient stars.“ Even though an individual has passed, you can always feel their presence. We never actually leave. Our bodies may disappear but our spirit remains,” she notes.
