Visualizer for Fagurt er í fjörðum by Hugar out now

Out today is the visualizer for Fagurt er í fjörðum (‘It’s Lovely In These Valleys’) by Hugar. The song is based on a poem from the 18th century about life in Northern Iceland and comes from their 5-track EP Þjóðlög / Folk Songs.

For this EP, they selected a set of five songs from the canon of Islandic Folk Music as their base material. Hugar says, “These are very old Icelandic songs that were part of an oral tradition, luckily saved for the nation by having been written down in the late 19th century. We feel that it is very important to keep these songs alive. They reflect our long, dark, raw winters with their themes of loss, grief and darkness. Our aim is to represent this sonically and these are some of our favorites from the collection.”
